Vaundy has received multiple nominations at the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2025, including Best Artist, Best Album, Best Japanese Song Artist, Best Domestic Rock Artist, and Best Domestic Singer-Songwriter. His album replica is nominated for Best Album, while his song “Kaijuu no Hanauta” has been selected for both Best Domestic Rock Song and Best Domestic Singer-Songwriter Song.
Vaundy released his breakout track “Tokyo Flash” in November 2019. The music video, featuring a VFX-powered vision of Tokyo blending elements of a parallel world with reality, quickly went viral. It surpassed one million views on YouTube within just two months. At the time, he was a 19-year-old university student. Writing, composing, arranging, and even producing his own visuals and artwork, Vaundy emerged as a leading figure of a new generation of artists, known for his multifaceted creativity and distinctive self-produced style.
Vaundy’s debut album strobo blends a wide range of genres, including neo-soul, hip-hop, dance music and J-pop into a cohesive, playlist-like experience where no single style dominates. This genre-fluid approach reflects his identity as a digital native. The album showcases both refined quality and a strong sense of contemporary relevance. One standout track, “Kaiju no Hanauta,” was crafted with inspiration from anime songs and Japanese rock from around 2014 to 2017. His performance of the song at the 73rd NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen brought the song to the attention of a broader audience.
“Kaiju no Hanauta” is also featured on Vaundy’s second album replica as a reimagined version titled “Kaiju no Hanauta -replica-.” The ambitious album is structured across two discs: Disc 1 contains 15 new tracks, while Disc 2 compiles 20 previously released songs in chronological order. Created under Vaundy’s philosophy that “originals are born from the history of replicas,” the album reflects his evolving perspective on pop music. In his pursuit of pop aesthetics, Vaundy came to view his role as crafting ever-better replicas—refined pop songs that resonate with the times. His innovative approach demonstrates a keen instinct for anticipating cultural shifts, and since the release of replica,Vaundy has continued to create pop anthems for this generation.
The music video for Vaundy’s new single “How do I know” (theme song for the drama series Pararescue Jumper) — which he also directed — has drawn significant attention for starring acclaimed actor Takeru Satoh. In February 2026, Vaundy is set to embark on a four-city dome tour, making him the youngest male solo artist in history to do so, with an expected attendance of around 300,000 across six shows.
With a naturally captivating voice that hooks listeners instantly and a genre-defying musical sensibility that showcases his extraordinary talent, Vaundy continues to lead the Reiwa-era music scene. He currently has 17 tracks that have surpassed 100 million streams—an impressive testament to his widespread appeal and influence.
