Co-hosted by MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN, Japan’s largest international music awards event, and Tokyo International Music Market (TIMM), Shibuya Sound Scramble "Go Viral! ~Brand-new Top Priority Artists Live~" took place on June 11 at Spotify O-EAST in Tokyo.

Ahead of the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026 ceremony on June 13, a citywide celebration titled MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK was held from June 5 to 13, featuring a wide range of events across Tokyo, centered around the Odaiba and Aomi areas. As part of the festivities, "Go Viral! ~Brand-new Top Priority Artists Live~" brought together six emerging acts recommended by Japan’s major record labels. Representing the next generation of the music scene, each artist delivered a distinctive performance that showcased their unique musical identity.

Maverick Mom

Opening the event was Maverick Mom, a four-piece rock band that made their major debut under Victor Entertainment this May. Their first song, "Karakuri," immediately showcased the band’s unpredictable ensemble style, shifting between constantly changing melodies and rhythmic patterns. Driven by powerful vocals and a chaotic yet pop-oriented sound, the band made a strong impression from the very beginning.

They followed with "Mouka," a summer love song that further highlighted their distinctive musical identity. Through an intricately crafted arrangement built from delicate phrases and precise interplay between the members, Maverick Mom demonstrated the depth and originality of their sound.

'Yuika'

Next to take the stage was Yuika, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter signed to Universal Music. She opened her set with her signature song "Suki Dakara.," which went viral and saw its video  surpass 130 million views on YouTube. Written when she was just 16, the song captures the many emotions that emerge through love, brought to life through Yuika’s expressive and emotive vocals.

For her next performance, "Seishun wa Mienai," Yuika switched from acoustic guitar to electric guitar, delivering a refreshing and energetic band sound. Encouraging the audience with, "Please wave your towels or anything you have in your hands!," she filled the venue with a bright and uplifting atmosphere.

ONE OR EIGHT

The third act of the evening was ONE OR EIGHT, an eight-member global boy group signed to avex. Having recently completed a tour across North America and Latin America, the group took the stage with "TOKYO 8 DRIFT" as their opening song.

Described by the members as "our iconic track," the song samples TERIYAKI BOYZ’s "Tokyo Drift (Fast & Furious)." With powerful rap verses and sharp choreography, ONE OR EIGHT immediately captured the audience’s attention. They continued with "POWER," delivering another high-energy performance while showcasing their hip-hop-influenced musical style.

Baby Canta

The fourth act of the evening was singer-songwriter Baby Canta, who made his major debut with Pony Canyon in April this year. Taking the stage with only his guitar, he performed "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," "I LOVE YOU BABY," and "The Weak."

Drawing the audience in with groovy vocals and guitar work influenced by Black music, Baby Canta delivered a performance filled with rhythm and personality. His spontaneous exclamations of "Ho!" and "Yeah!" throughout the set reflected his genuine enjoyment of the music itself. With a free-spirited and expressive performance, he left a strong impression on the audience.

Leina

The fifth act of the evening was singer-songwriter Leina, signed to Sony Music. Taking the stage with an acoustic guitar in hand, she performed "utatane" and "Kimi ga Shinitai tte Iunara."

With "utatane," a song that has gained attention not only in Japan but also in South Korea, Leina captivated the audience with her captivating vocals and the song’s memorable lyric, "In my next life, I want to become your guitar." During her MC, she shared, "Singing is like a hometown to me" and "I am here today because music saved me," before moving into "Kimi ga Shinitai Itte Iunara." Through her heartfelt delivery, Leina conveyed the deep emotions and message embedded within the song.

luv

Closing out the event was luv, a five-member band whose members were all born in 2003. Following their first-ever Asia tour this year, the group opened their set with an instrumental session performed by the band members.

On "Ohaguro," luv drew the audience in with an intricate arrangement that blended a classical piano riff with a funky beat, delivering a vibrant and dynamic performance. They followed with "Send To You," showcasing a warm and soulful sound centered around the use of a talk box. The members’ frequent exchanges of eye contact throughout the performance highlighted the close connection and chemistry defining them as a band.
