Fujii Kaze, a truly unique artist whose influence continues to grow on a global scale, was born in 1997 in Okayama Prefecture. Inspired by his father, he began playing the piano at an early age, and by 12, he was posting piano cover videos filmed in his family’s coffee shop to YouTube. Even at this young age, his impressive playing skills, innovative arrangements, and distinctive groove — in which he seemed to merge with the music itself — drew attention.
In 2019, he relocated to Tokyo, and in May 2020, he released his debut album HELP EVER HURT NEVER. The album topped the Billboard Japan Hot Albums chart and reached number two on the Oricon Weekly Album chart. His genre-blending musical style, soulful voice, and unique lyrics that seamlessly blend Okayama dialect with English resonated with a wide range of listeners. His spontaneous “ne-soberi (laid-back)” livestream sessions, where he casually performs and improvises various songs, also won fans over, showcasing his relatable personality.
In September 2021, he held a live stream concert at Nissan Stadium with no audience, which was watched by nearly 180,000 viewers on YouTube. In 2022, his hit song “Shinunoga E-Wa” topped charts in 23 countries worldwide, establishing him as a global star. In 2023, he sold out all stops on his Asia tour and continued his global expansion with shows in the United States and ten Asian cities in 2024. He also performed a successful solo concert at Nissan Stadium in Japan, this time to a packed house ready to celebrate with him in person.
His song "Michi Teyu Ku," nominated for Best Song at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2025, is a poignant ballad written for the film April, Come She Will. The song conveys a worldview of "becoming whole through letting go," offering a tender, empathetic message that connects with people’s lives. During the 2024 NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, the song was performed in a one-take video set in the streets of New York, creating a cinematic atmosphere that sparked widespread buzz.
Additionally, his second album LOVE ALL SERVE ALL, nominated for Best Album, was released in 2022. True to its title, the album explores love from various perspectives. With each release, Fujii Kaze’s reputation has only grown, cementing him as one of Japan’s top artists — an ideal fit for the prestigious MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN.
