Creepy Nuts has a commanding presence at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2025 with nominations across 15 categories, including Best Song, Best Artist, and Best Japanese Hip-Hop/Rap Artist. The duo, made up of elite MC R-Shitei, a three-time national champion of the prestigious ULTIMATE MC BATTLE, and DJ Matsunaga, who claimed the world title at the 2019 DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS, came together in 2013, blending freestyle mastery with world-class turntablism.
Their rise began in the indie scene, with breakout tracks like “Gōhōteki Tobikata no Susume” and the pair’s sharp-witted banter on the long-running radio show All Night Nippon winning over listeners. With a major label debut in 2017, the two brought their unique brand of hip-hop to the mainstream. R-Shitei’s intricate lyricism and powerful delivery met DJ Matsunaga’s genre-blending beats, leading to hits like “Nobishiro” and “Daten,” along with high-profile festival appearances, including as headliners at ROCK IN JAPAN.
In 2024, they hit a new high with “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born.” Built on a high-energy Jersey Club beat and packed with clever verses, the track became a worldwide sensation, boosted by its tie-in with the anime Mashle: Magic and Muscles and the viral “BBBB Dance.” It quickly spread across YouTube and TikTok, climbing to No. 8 on the Billboard Global 200. Its impact is reflected in its nominations in four regional categories of “Top Japanese Song”: Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
Now a unit with international and biggie-sized touring experience under its belt — from performing at Dodger Stadium to headlining Tokyo Dome in 2025 — Creepy Nuts continues to push Japanese hip-hop forward. Their latest album LEGION showcases the group’s fearless creativity and cements its status as both icons and innovators at the cutting edge of the genre.
